We almost didn't start in the bathroom
Kind of funny now that I think about it.
When we first stopped by the house in Riverview, we actually spent more time standing in the hallway than inside the bathroom itself. The homeowner kept apologizing for the mess, which wasn't necessary. If somebody waited until their house was perfectly clean before starting a remodel, we'd never have any work.
She finally said, "Just ignore everything and come look."
So, we did.
Nothing in there was broken exactly.
Old? Sure.
Worn out? Definitely.
But everything still worked.
That's usually the point where people either keep putting it off...or finally decide they're done looking at the same room every morning.
There wasn't one thing that made the biggest difference
People ask us that sometimes.
Truth is, I don't know.
Maybe the shower.
Maybe the vanity.
Maybe getting rid of finishes that had probably been there since the house was built.
Hard to say.
At one point somebody on our crew asked if the light fixture was staying.
It wasn't.
Good thing too.
I don't think any of us were going to miss that thing.
Remodeling days aren't always exciting
Most of the work isn't.
You're measuring something twice because your first measurement didn't feel right.
You're walking back out to the trailer because the tool you wanted isn't where you thought you left it.
You sweep the floor.
Then sweep it again.
Somebody always asks what everybody wants for lunch.
It's just work.
Then every now and then you stop for a second and realize the room doesn't even look like the same space anymore.
That's usually somewhere around the middle of the project.
The homeowner wandered in before we were finished
We still had a few things left.
She looked around without saying much.
Walked over to the vanity.
Opened a drawer.
Closed it.
Looked at the shower.
Then she goes,
"This actually feels like our house now."
I don't know why that stuck with me.
Maybe because she didn't mention the tile.
Or the fixtures.
Or anything expensive.
Just that the room finally felt like it belonged there.
Anyway...
That's another one in the books.
Bathrooms are funny because they're usually one of the smallest rooms in the house, but people use them every single day. When they're outdated, you notice it every morning without really thinking about it.
We work on homes throughout Riverview, Brandon, and nearby communities, and no two remodeling projects ever seem to go exactly the same.
